Bagheera

“Our wisdom is older than the Brahmans, more ancient than the sutras. We have seen the Aryans, the Greeks, the Mughals and the British pass through, and we have been unmoved. In the first days, we learned our place under Heaven: to observe, to destroy and to usher the soul to its next life’s destiny.”
Werepanther/leopard. Seen world wide as the advisor in films and plays from the ‘Jungle book’ members of this tribe are strong, intelligent and supremely self controlled (for a Bastet). Originally the ‘peacemakers’ of the Bastet, the role never arose for them to fulfill. Bagheera are generous, trustworthy, playful and fair—but be warned, you wouldn’t want to risk their temper!

The werepanthers and leopards go through three phases in their life; the ‘akari’ (searching), ‘pourra’ (foundation) and the ‘doyala’ (passing on).

Markings similar to the Balam, some individuals are very dark brown, almost black, effectively masking their spots and producing the famous black panther, a lineage which shows more strongly in females of the tribe. A solid-colored leopard or “black panther” is often of a more aggressive nature than those with a spotted coat. This is because normal spotted mothers tend to dislike solid-color cubs, often driving them away prematurely. This ostracism produces mean-tempered, intolerant individuals, just as it does with humans. No satisfactory explanation has ever been given for this phenomenon.

Initial Willpower: 2

Initial Rage: 2

Backgrounds: 4 - no fetish

Tribal Advantage: Sages - Bagheera are the philosophers of the Bastet and are less likely to frenzy. They have a free retest on all frenzy checks.

Tribal Drawbacks: Scholastic - Bagheera must spend four experience points to buy rage.

Balam

“Take your demon filth and get out of my home. Stay, and die.”
Werejaguar. Often seem with their visages set in Jade, from their Olmec, Aztec and Mayan history. Massive and powerfully built, usually with yellowish brown fur marked with darker rosettes, although those with darker fur can mask the markings and appear ‘almost’ black.

They are the culmination of two tribes—hence the honorific title Two-Hearts . The joining of Olioiuqui and Hovitl Qua. Very set apart from anything man made, especially ‘white men’, whom they blame for the destruction of their ancestors and the jungles that were their home.

Khan may be the chosen warriors of Seline, but the Balam are by far the most aggressive of the tribes. Sadly, sometimes lost beneath a bath of fury and blood are the values of honor and family held like rock within members of this tribe.

Their den-realms and chosen mate are lavished with attention, and are extremely affectionate to loved ones. They strive to regain what was once lost, sadly a losing batle, protecting the land and devoting their being to their beliefs.

Initial Willpower: 2

Initial Rage: 4

Backgrounds: 3 - no resources, allies, or contacts

Tribal Advantage: Speed - All Balam get one free quick trait which cannot be bid unless it is their last trait, and then they never lose it.

Tribal Drawbacks: Country Folk - Balam can’t regain gnosis while in the city (any place with a gauntlet rating higher than 6)

Bubasti

“If there’s a viper in your soul, purge it. The road we walk is treacherous enough alone.”
Shadowcats. Sorcerers and conspirators. These are the Egyptian shapeshifters, direct descendants of the revered race. Worshipped even in death, secretive, mysterious and sinister, these cats pursue forbidden knowledge to regain their ancestors’ glory - and to increase their own

They suffer the curse of eternal hunger, always appearing lean and gaunt this breed craves nourishment eternally in every form, from food and drink to knowledge of a deeper kind. Those with a feel for the unnatural are uneasy and repelled by the presence of these beings, unless of course one has a taste for the morbid and macabre.

Most take the homid as their natural form, as a war with the Kindred all but wiped out their aristocratic tendencies and killed or captured their feline part, the Kyphur. Blood lines were weak, but more recently an infusion of foreign blood into the race has strengthened them.

Unified and organized, these catpeople strike at the ‘Followers of Set’ the vampires which destroyed them whenever they can. They ‘look’ native to the home soil, dark skinned and hair, with green eyes, their gaunt forms favoring Egyptian decoration for practical and fashionable uses.

Initial Willpower: 2

Initial Rage: 1

Backgrounds: 2 - no allies, contacts, or pride

Tribal Advantage: Magic Affinity - Bubasti gain an extra gnosis. Bubasti can learn to use Human Magic.

Tribal Drawbacks: Distrusted - Bubasti must risk two social traits when dealing with other Bastet, and three traits when dealing with other Shapeshifters.

Celican

“Art is the expression of a dream. And dreams, my friend, are what we are at heart.”
Fae Cats. The ones that dance with the fairies and sing songs that could never reach normal ears...they laugh in a place far away, for that is their terror. Some think they do not exist. Thought extinct, they disguise their survival in erratic behavior and misdirection. In legend their tribe was captured by a lord Samhach, who discovered the fae cats Yava and enslaved all he could.

Born of dreams, favored toward artistic and extravagant tendencies, they explore all sensations within their multifaceted life. Forever changing, forever hidden.

Most are like the domestic cats of today in feline form, but sized up to panther size. Little is known about these feline fairytales, your may have even met one and not known it.

Khan

“No king is so mighty, no priest so holy, no virgin so pure at heart that their blood would not freeze before the face of a tiger. I am the battler of dragons, the son of the dawn. Look upon me and tremble. Before me you are as nothing.”
Weretiger. The mighty warriors, the largest and most powerful of the breed, massively built with awesome power. The defenders of the earth and fists of the gods, they hold strength and honor as the greatest achievements. And yet they are also wanderers, the children of the sun are solitary animals, and this is apparent in their history, as wars between themselves severely depleted their numbers, combating itself their love of company and friendship.

They breed true and pure although this is becoming more difficult as man, vampires and others seek the greatest trophy, the great cats themselves may face extinction. The only true striped cat, distinctive white grey, or orange black markings.

No true leaders of their own, many of the other feline changing breeds would take them as the leader, a grudge match faced equally between themselves and Simba. Regal warriors through and through, strength of mind and body, well traveled and eager to learn, these beasts are a contradiction in their own terms.

Initial Willpower: 2

Initial Rage: 5

Backgrounds: 5 points - no limit

Tribal Advantage: Ferocious - Khan are stronger, and can call for a free second test to do another level of bite damage in combat. This does not require use of a rage point, but the Khan may opt to spend a rage to do a third level of damage if they so choose. Khans lose ties on the free test. Khans are the only Bastet that induce the delirium in humans (Kinfolk from any origin are not affected).

Tribal Drawbacks: Intolerance to Humans - Khans hate humans, and have a short temper with them. All frenzy checks are at a two trait penalty, and Khans become visibly up-tight when around large numbers of them. Imagine what claws on a chalk board would do to a Khan, then add human stink.

Pumonca

“If you didn’t talk so much, you might hear a great deal more.”
Werecougars. The cougar was until recently found in all parts of North and South America except the arctic, but is rapidly vanishing from large portions of the U.S. and Canada. It is strongly territorial, claiming an exceptionally wide range, and is solitary even by cat standards, avoiding its own kind except to mate. These traits are adopted by the werecats of this tribe.

Solitary to a fault, they live sleep and travel alone, preferring to keep to the wilderness. They tend to avoid humans and their settlements and farms when establishing its territory, but are not shy about contact when a human moves into an already established territory.

Although small for a large cat, they more than make up for lack of strength by their stealth, aided by their supreme knowledge of the land. The storm walkers though, do appear now and then to stand up for their beliefs when something goes askew, albeit briefly. American through and through their ideals are honor, strength and self reliance. Keepers of their native soil, these wanderers maintain a deep connection to elemental powers.

Initial Willpower: 2

Initial Rage: 4

Backgrounds: 3 - No Totem, Resources, or Allies

Qualmi

“If I were to change my face, would it alter what I am? Appearances are deceiving my brother; the heart sees better than the eyes.”
Werelynxes. The lynx is a large cat with a powerful body, short, sturdy legs, and a very short tail. The fisher cats puzzling nature goes well with the fact that their coats change to match the seasons.

The weretypes of this tribe are known as the ‘Riddle dancers’, as they are experts at disguise, misdirection and supreme in the art of confusion. These masters of trickery can see through deception when it presents itself.

Native American in origin, unusually they keep the company of Garou, enjoying a friendship with the Uketena tribe. They are generous hospitable people, and will invite someone to stay for a while if it takes their fancy, although how long a person will stay when faced with riddle like questions, and insane answers depends.

Simba

“A pity you lack vision. Something must be done. Fortunately, I have an answer. Are you with me or not?”
Werelions. “The Lords of the Sunlight”. This tribe claim leader and King over all other cat breeds. The dark kings, who would rule all catkind if they could, and dominate all within their grasp. They blame the other tribes for the upset in the world. Qualmi for talking too much and telling secrets, Pumonca, for not watching out for danger, Balam, Khan, Ceilican, Bagheera, for taking news with them on the hunt, Bubasti, for not telling of threats, and Swara for taking and telling of the birth of the kings cubs. This is why they are often seen as ‘villains’, or ‘bullies’, blaming other tribes and holding grudges, setting themselves far above the rest in both stature and position.

They value strength and order, the lion is unique in that it is the only wild cat that lives in a group, called a pride, consisting of one mature male and any number of females, cubs, and immature males. They appear muscular and wild, standing out against others with their wild hair (even the females).

Swara

“Are you blind? How can you see the world around you and not insist that we’re living in the final days?”
Werecheetah. You see before you the swift Swara, but one of the feline changers who can assume the fleeting beast. Not gifted with Strength these guys are fast. Elusive and high-strung, they hold a deeper bond to the spirit world than any others of their kind.

The Swara are the only members of the cat folk who are able to step sideways as a natural ability, instead of a learned gift, and are therefore the most knowledgeable of all the cats in matters spiritual.

They are loners, solitary individuals who travel and live alone not by choice but because they are extremely paranoid!!! They feel that they will be betrayed by all they meet, and are extremely distrustful of everyone they meet.

The most primitive of all cats, evolving some 18 million years ago, the cheetah is a tall, slim, long-legged cat, which is reflected in their human guise, lean and slender. They are often tattooed on leaving their mentor, on the back, arm or face (depending on culture), and any adornment or decoration on these creatures always bears some spiritual significance.
