Physics in Anita's World

Everyone Knows

The supernatural is not hidden in this reality. Vampires, werewolves, fae, ghosts, all are well known to the general populace, and either feared or worshiped.

Vampires

A few years ago, Vampires won the right to be citizens of the United States. Prior to this change, anyone could hunt a vampire, if they dared, and suffered no consequence if they killed one. Now the slaying industry is well regulated by the US government, and a warrant must be obtained before any vampire can be killed.

All vamires are afraid of and susecpitble to crosses, holy water and the Eucharist, as well as garlic. Holy items glow around vampires, based on the faith of the wearer.

All wounds caused by holy items leave permanent scars

All vampires must fall asleep at sundown. Vampires must sleep as many hours as they have pips in humanity. The number of successes on a humanity roll determines how many hours before sunset they can rise. The older the vampire, the lower the difficulty because of the generally lower rating in humanity

There are two kinds of vampires: Master Vampires and those that will never be Master. It is not a matter of age, but a matter of strength. The strongest Master in the territory runs that territory.

Werewolves

Lycanthropy and other breeds of shapeshifting is transmitted through body fluids. While there is a vaccine, it is not always completely reliable, and there have been cases where a person will catch lycanthropy due to a bad batch of the vaccine.

Werewolves and other shapeshifters are treated like second class citizens. No one wants a werewolf to work in a school or restaurant and even a hint that someone is infected and destroy their reputation, and their career.

Because of the risk of infection, many states still have laws on the books that make it legal to kill a shapeshifter as long as they are proven to be so after they are killed.
